Happy Pride from The Community Grocer! This June and every month, we are proud to celebrate the strength, love, resilience, and beauty of the LGBTQ+ community.

Over the last month our team has accomplished some major construction milestones, celebrated partnerships from soil to supper, and continued to serve our community in preparation for our upcoming launch in the coming months.

5 years ago we set out on a mission to build the store of our dreams to make eating well easier for all. With your support, we are bringing that dream to reality.

Construction Updates: The Finish Line is Near!

Over the last month we have passed our rough-in inspections, our framing inspections, and have begun insulation and drywall.

With our insulation inspection scheduled for this afternoon, the final sprint towards equipment install begins. We are closer than ever to completing construction on 60th street and opening our doors for our community.

We Built a HoopHouse: Food System Partnership in Action!

When we learned that our friends and suppliers FarmerJawn Agriculture lost one of their hoop houses last winter, we jumped into action.

We deployed philanthropic capital from FMC Corporation to rebuild the hoop house; ensuring a consistent supply of regenerative, organic, local produce for The Community Grocer through the winter months.

FMC didn’t stop there. They joined the TCG and Farmer Jawn teams on the farm to build the hoop house together, and have since funded educational farm trips so our neighbors can meet the farmer, the land, and the people behind the food soon to be on our shelves.

And Farmer Jawn didn’t stop there either. As the hoop house came back online, they made a commitment to supply TCG with produce free of charge until the full value of the investment is paid back in food.

Capital in. Produce out. Community fed. This is what it looks like to build with intention, with care, and with community 💚

AARP for supporting our second floor community space with digital activations for our community through a $15,000 Community Challenge Grant.

The Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia Giving Circle for awarding The Community Grocer the first place prize of $50,000 for their 2026 food security grant awards.

Chobani/La Colombe - For a $35k grant to launch our GroceryRx program, $15k to build out our coffee activations, and in-kind donations to help build community through the daily rituals of food & coffee.

AbbVie Foundation Health Equity Accelerator Kick-Off

Our team flew to Chicago to kick off the AbbVie Foundation’s Health Equity Accelerator. Selected as 1/6 organizations nationally, we are spending the next 10 weeks with the MATTER ® team to accelerate our health equity programming as we work to make eating well easier for all. The kick-off of the program was spent redefining our GroceryRx solutions and connecting with the other incredible organizations taking part in the accelerator 💚
